BECAUSE EVERY DOG IS DIFFERENT: ROYAL CANIN HAS TAILOR-MADE ANSWERS.

Royal Canin always goes further and further in the pursuit of knowledge; we thus have established the basis of a new approach to Health Nutrition with food targeted to fulfil physiological and dietetic needs of specific breeds. In 1999, in partnership with breeders, Royal Canin launched the first food dedicated to a specific breed (Persian cat). Ever since, Royal Canin has been acquiring always more scientific knowledge of nutritional precision, taking into account each breed's particular sensitivities and formulating a unique diet to respond to each breed's specific needs.

Royal Canin's BREED HEALTH NUTRITION range contains rigorously selected proteins, which are controlled throughout the manufacturing process. Their very high digestibility levels, at least 90% on average, ensure the best possible assimilation by the body and good intestinal health. The BREED HEALTH NUTRITION range is formulated with quality nutrients, excellent raw materials and exclusive natural aromas, which the dog detects immediately.

The kibbles have tailor-made shape, size and texture to:

  • help encouraging good oral hygiene,
  • make it easier for brachycephalic breeds and puppies to pick up their food,
  • help slowing down the speed of ingestion, in particular for greedy breeds that have a tendency to gulp down their food,
  • be adapted to the size and shape of each different jaw.

GREAT DANE ( Check out Video: Videoa | VideoB )

For Great Dane: http://www.breednutrition-rc.com/in/great-dane/index2.php

A majestic, affectionate giant
The Great Dane is one of the biggest dogs in the world. Powerful and elegant, his athletic appearance hides a calm, docile and totally unaggressive nature. Despite appearances, this giant is not made for intense physical activity. Very attached to his owners and his own space, the Great Dane doesn't bark much - but does need good training.

The Great Dane Story:
Known since very ancient times, the Great Dane's ancestors were used to hunt wild boar. Becoming the emblem of the German Empire in the 19th century, the breed standard became official in Berlin in 1880.

Major Characteristics of Great Danes:
Muscles need energy! With 80% muscle mass, the Great Dane's energy needs are 50% higher than other dogs in its class. Meanwhile, his short coat provides little insulation against the cold.

Joints under strain. With his imposing stature and very long growth period, the Great Dane demands a great deal from his joints. Throughout life, the Great Dane needs a perfectly balanced diet, with exactly the right amount of calcium in particular.

Delicate digestive system. The great length of the Great Dane's colon increases transit time and intestinal fermentations, which result in the production of very wet stools. Furthermore, his deep thoracic cage is an additional risk factor for dilatation-torsion of the stomach, a problem which is common in giant breed dogs. Eating too fast is also an aggravating factor.

Royal Canin Product Range for Great Danes:

Boxer ( Check out Video: Videoa )

For Boxer: http://www.breednutrition-rc.com/in/boxer/index2.php

An athletic dog with bags of character
With an athletic, defined silhouette, and toned, powerful muscles, the Boxer is built for physical exercise. Not over-excitable, he makes an excellent guard dog. Often lively and intrepid, he knows how to be calm and docile with his owners, as long as careful training channels his legendary enthusiasm.

The Boxer Story:
The origin of the Boxer's name remains a mystery. One theory links it to his battling behaviour, while another says the name comes from the town of Boxtel in the Netherlands

Major Characteristics of Boxers:

Supple joints and powerful muscles at first glance. The Boxer's dynamism is renowned - this breed never holds back. Therefore, he places great demands on his joints, which increases the risk of injury, and as a result he needs a food adapted to his intense physical activity.

A fragile heart. Cardiology is the main reason for a veterinary consultation with the adult Boxer. However, the presence of a heart murmur is often only found during a routine veterinary examination

A certain amount of digestive sensitivity. Upset, stressed or overtired. the Boxer can sometimes experience intestinal transit problems. Only a healthy lifestyle and food adapted to his particular needs can help control these digestive problems.

Very specific features. With a brachycephalic skull and prognathous jaw, the Boxer has particularly short and narrow jaws. The specific implantation of the teeth makes picking up his food difficult and encourages him to swallow his food without crunching it.

A truly noble dog

Powerful, lively, intelligent, loyal. the German Shepherd has many impressive qualities. An excellent guard dog, he is also used as a rescue dog thanks to his exceptionally refined sense of smell. But this breed, with its physical aptitude and flexible character, is appreciated just as much for the beauty of his black and tan coat.

The German Shepherd Story:
The German Shepherd's origins can be traced back to the end of the 19th century. Originally a sheep dog, careful selection led to the ultimate utility dog, with a contribution of bloodlines from the Scottish Shepherd among others.

Major Characteristics of German Shepherds:

Sensitive digestion. Like other large breed dogs, the German Shepherd has a sensitive digestive system. There are three reasons: a proportionally smaller digestive tract, major intestinal permeability, and increased risk of gastric fermentation.

A sensitive immune system. The German Shepherd's natural immune defences are not always very effective in protecting the skin and mucosa. It is essential to reinforce his immune system to help him fight oxidative stress, which is responsible for ageing.

Watching over an alkaline skin. Increased cutaneous pH levels predispose the German Shepherd to bacterial infections. His food can help reinforce the cutaneous barrier and maintain the beauty of his coat.

The joints of an athlete. A physical dog, the German Shepherd demands a great deal of his joints. From growth onwards, his food needs to protect the cartilages to help fight against the development of arthritis.

For Labarador: http://www.breednutrition-rc.com/in/labrador-retriever/index2.php

A really charming dog, full of life

The indefatigable Labrador Retriever is full of energy. He loves swimming, or long walks with his owners. His endurance, linked to his outstanding visual and cognitive capacities make him an ideal guide dog. Always enthusiastic, intelligent and well-balanced, he is very docile and particularly good with children.

The Labrador Story:
Originally from the island of Newfoundland, the Labrador Retriever was much appreciated by the fishermen of the area. His insulated coat, a real barrier against the cold, enabled him to pick up the fish which escaped the nets.

Major Characteristics of Labradors:

Perfect insulation. Dense, short hairs, with a thick undercoat, the structure of the Labrador Retriever's waterproof coat protects him from scratches and insulates him from the cold, such as in the water, because the water just slides off without penetrating the coat.

Appetite control. The Labrador Retriever can be particularly greedy when there is plenty of food around. If he is sedentary or sterilised, the risks of gaining weight increase. It is essential to control the energy provided by the food to avoid weight gain.

Caring for his joints. A determined athlete, the Labrador Retriever gives his all. His solid body, strong bones and his natural predisposition to gain weight are among the factors which can weaken his joints.

A soft-hearted mini-molossoid

Sensitive, loyal, loving. the Pug can never have too much attention from his owner. Slightly unruly as a youngster, firm and fair training will turn him into a calm and level-headed dog who still has his cheerful nature. Quite happy with life in an apartment, he doesn't like being apart from his owner and hates separations.

The Pug Story:

Originating in China, the Pug became a habituee of the Royal courts of Europe, as the favourite pet of Marie-Antoinette, Madame de Pompadour and Joséphine de Beauharnais, wife of Emperor Napoléon 1st. The breed is known as « Carlin » in France, « Mops » in the Netherlands and Germany, and « Carlino » in Italy.

Major Characteristics of Pugs:

Very specific features. Brachycephalic and slightly prognathous, the Pug has a large, round head with a short square muzzle. His characteristic jaw and very thick lips make it difficult for him to pick up his food, and he has a tendency to swallow it without crunching.

Skin with natural folds. The Pug's short hair really shows off his folded skin, particularly around the face. Because they retain humidity, the folds can encourage the appearance of dermatological problems. Regular cleaning helps reduce the risk.

Keep his respiratory capacities in mind. A thick tongue, very long soft palate and receding nostrils are all factors which affect the Pug's breathing. It is therefore essential to keep an eye on him while exercising, particularly during hot weather, and to manage his weight.
